March 2007 Archives

I am a makeup, fashion, and product packaging diva. I will buy a pack of gum just for its packaging, especially if it's in a tin container.

Makeup and fashion are my next big inspirations when it comes to my art work/life. The certain color of an eye shadow or a pattern in a skirt can lead to artistic inspiration for me. Sometimes, I just like the way they look and I gotta have it.

Here are a few examples of how art really does imitate life or vice versa...

This is from Smashbox cosmetics.

Here is a lip gloss from Bare Escentuals

Two different styles. But both are equally artistic and eye-catching.

Sorry, I have been slacking in the blogging department. I have off tomorrow and then it's the weekend. I promise to return with some new entries...

Easter egg hunt

What came first? The Easter egg, or the Easter chick?

These cute illustrations are going to be in my Easter Egg hunt page. Look for it in the April 6 publication of the York Daily Record/Sunday News.

winter blues

Ok, I did say in an earlier entry how I thought the snow was beautiful. But that was before it was 70°F two days ago. Now look at it...

winter.jpg

Yep, thats snow and they're calling for another 6 inches possibly.

I love reading children's book, not only for the creative stories, but for the imaginative art that goes into them.

I took a children's book illustration class when I was in college.

This is the dummy book. A dummy book is what you would send to potential book publishers.

Here are my final paintings that are hanging in my living room.

Here is a picture of my siamese. She has nothing to do with my art, she is just always there by my side.

Spiderman 3

I absolutely love designing movie pages, especially when it's a movie I'm interested in and Spider Man 3 is no exception.

Here's a sneak peek.
spider.jpg

It's kind of strange cause I haven't decided what I'm actually doing, which might sound backwards to most people. I mean, I just starting drawing in Illustrator and kept on going, not sure of the end result. This, of course is not the end result (hopefully).

I still have to figure out what the content of this page is going to be. I think I'm headed in the gaming direction, but who knows.

I might end up scrapping this page completely and start from scratch.

My spidey senses tell me that I have plenty of time to finish this page before the movie's release in May.

When I first saw the trailer for the movie "300," I was blown away by the visuals.
Check out the trailer at
http://300themovie.warnerbros.com/

My husband thought it looked weird. But I thought differently. I thought it was beautiful. I absolutely loved the colors, the stylized scenes that seemed almost painted.

3002.jpg

Unlike "Lord of the Rings" where the viewer is made to believe the Middle Earth realm's existence is real, "300" does the opposite. We know it has historical connections, but the presentation is dreamlike and surreal.

My dad, of course, didn't like the look of the movie at all. He commented that, maybe if Hollywood would hire "real" actors who could act, they wouldn't have to rely on computer animation.

My argument is this: "300" is visually stimulating, especially for an artist at heart. And although I've heard mixed reviews on the acting, I still want to see it. And if the acting gets bad enough I'll watch it with the mute on...

Painting

Here is the other abstract painting I started yesterday.

This is the other painting that I finished. I want to hang the two paintings together.

Last night I spent about 3 hours painting one of my gold canvases.
Here is the process.

I still have some details to add, but overall I'm very happy with how the painting developed.

Again, my inspiration came from Klimt. Here is his painting.

I forgot to show the completed mural in my son's bedroom.
Here it is.

Dollhouse update

| | Comments (1)

Here's, the most recent picture of my dream dollhouse...

dollhouse.jpg
It sits in my kitchen because it's the only room in my house that is big enough for the construction to get finished.

This is the begining of a wall mural I painted in my son's bedroom.

I decided I wanted to do a jungle scene with playful monkeys.
My son was born in "The Year of the Monkey" and my husband really likes monkeys.
mural3.jpg
I first sketched the scene, using a regular lead pencil. I used acrylic paints and only used a small handful of different colors.

mural4.jpg

It took me a day to paint, but it was well worth it. My son says good night to the monkeys every night before he goes to bed...

Ok, it's a dollhouse, but it's still my dream to build it.

Intial construction started a year ago. I purchased the dollhouse kit from a local couple, who still were working on another dollhouse for their daughter.

Here's the front of the dollhouse in an early phase.

This is the back/inside.

Here, I installed the windows to the front of the dollhouse.

Here is one of the end units.

Hopefully, this is what it will look like when it's finished.
