October 2007 Archives

I've been busy cranking out page designs and illustrations..

This is an annual page design that kicks off our Holiday Cookie contest.
I don't have the story so what you see is dummy copy to give me a feel for the overall design. When, I finally do get the copy the design of the page will change, sometimes it's a dramatic change.

This is an illustration to accompany a story about "When people should quit" or in this case, when to jump ship.

One of the coolest things about working in Adobe Illustrator is the Photoshop like effects that can be generated. Word of caution, using too many filters will slow down your redraw time and could cause your computer to crash.

No, pie for me...

ConAgra Foods announced late yesterday that it was finally recalling its Salmonella tainted Banquet and store brand pot pies.

How does this effect me? It means I have nothing to eat tonight for dinner. I work an evening shift and brought my dinner, which consisted of a cup of yogurt and the "tainted" Banquet Chicken Pot Pie.

Well, I know that there is a slight chance I could get deathly ill, but here is my argument, I have already eaten two of them a couple of days ago, and I'm perfectly fine. I mean, really would it be so bad to eat my last pie? Maybe, I have aquired anti-bodies from eating the two previous pot pies? Who knows, all I know is I'm doing fine, but have nothing to eat for dinner tonight if I don't eat my pie. Perhaps, the food-fairy will come and magicaly "poof" a bacon-cheese burger down in front of me, hopefully it wouldn't be a Topps burger.

So, if you are one of the lucky ones that have consumed a Banquet Chicken pot pie and have gone unscathed, more power to you. If, you are like me and are considering whether or not to eat your "last tainted" pot pie, my advice would be to stop, and listen to everyone screaming in your ear not to eat it. (that's what my co-workers are doing to me now)

So now I am a poor, starving artist....

Back to school

I had my first Adobe Flash CS3 class at PCA&D. I went to PCA&D and graduated in 98, I think (it's been awhile) http://www.pcad.edu/

The class was great and have already picked up a few pointers.

Another great thing about heading back to downtown Lancaster is the influence of art is alive and thriving.

I went into this really cute, little store called Metropolis.

I ended buying a small toy for my boss. (my review is coming up and I thought it couldn't hurt to suck up) It's created by Nathan Jurevicius.

Two very different topics but are related through art.

This is a watercolor of two of my cats I did about 3 years ago.

Here is an acrylic painting, my husband did for me of an ultra sound taken when Mr.Vincent was just a whee little thing.

that I am not.

I really am not a good pumpkin carver. I don't like the smell. I do like pumpkin pie, but not the pumpkin itself.

Here's a sneak peek at the pumpkin that wil be in Saturday's Flipside Weekend section. We are having a pumpkin carving contest, so check out this Saturday's paper for all the details.
