April 2008 Archives

Introducing Diesel, my English bulldog that my family adopted. The original owners were looking to downsize there family. And I was looking to add a bulldog to my family. Now, instead of me walking around the newsroom talking about the bulldog of my dreams, I now am the proud mamma of an English bulldog.

Isn't he a cutie? I'm talking about the dog. (My husbannd is still cute too.)

I don't have a play button with this simple animation, but just refresh your window and you can see it again...

OK, so it's a little tiny, but it works!!!! This is an actual multimedia presentation, so go on see for yourself by rolling your cursor and clicking on the different interactive elements.

This is my first FLASH presentation I did for the newspaper. I was just learning FLASH 8 at the time.

Still not sure how to embed a Flash animation so you'll have to download the file to see my animation

I got home at about 4:00 a.m. after finishing my interactive map. Got up at 10:23 a.m. and drug myself into work.

It's about 3:45a.m. and I'm finishing up my interactive map that you can check out at http://ydr.inyork.com/

And I'm tired.

And my bumbling boss just deleted my blog entry, so now I'm rewriting my entry and I'm very tired. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I'm going to go home and zzzzzzzzzzzz.

First, I must make it perfectly clear, I love my job here at the good old YDR.

But, have to say that I'm really frustrated with FLASH CS3. I was sooo frustrated today, that I actually back paddled and reopen FLASH 8.

My frustrations grew out of the fact that you can no longer directly add a behavior or action to a button. Which, you really shouldn't do, but I was creating very simple action scripts, so I thought I would throw caution to the wind and add a simple action to my button. HA! Can't be done! Well, it can be done, just not directly.

For example, you have a button sitting on your stage. Select it, give it an instance name, (in this example the instance name is myButton) in the Property inspector. Once you give the button an instance name ActionScript can now identify it from any other objects/symbols present. Next add some action scripting to a key frame that is on its own layer and type the following:

myButton.addEventListener(
MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP,
function(evt:MouseEvent):void {
trace("I've been clicked!");
}
);

Well, that's pretty much your crash course on adding action scripts to buttons? In short, direct attachment of code is a thing of the past. ActionScript 3.0 simply doesn’t support it. Also, to add the Behaviors panel is dimmed when a FLA’s Publish Settings are configured for AS3, because Behaviors rely on on() or onClipEvent(). Change your Publish Settings to AS2 or 1, they come back.

I am in no ways an expert at Flash, I'm still learning, and now with Flash CS3 re-learning.

I love sharing my art with family and friends. So, when holidays and birthdays roll around don't be suprise if my gifts are of my own creation.

Here, are two paintings I have given as gifts.

Ohh, I'm excited to see my Prom page. I think it will publish on the 11th in the Living section.

Here's the almost finished design. The finished page design has color.

The Philadelphia Museum of Art might have a fantastic collection of European and contemporary art, but it is far more famous for something else altogether: the location of Rocky's inspiring stair workout.

Personally, I don't like contemporary art, but the plug hanging from the ceiling caught my eye.

I'm huge fan of Pop artist Roy Lichtenstein. I've done past illustrations mimicking his style. This paticular piece is a bit boring, but it was the only Lichtenstein I saw.

I think I might do a sketch of this sculpture. I really like the movement in the figure and clothes.

I just finished watching ABC’s special, an interview with Randy Pausch. Who's Randy Pausch, you might ask? He's just an ordinary guy, a father, a husband, a mentor, for me he was a wake up call. The following video is a little over an hour, but well worth the time.
