Watercolor of York County

| | Comments (1)

I've been really busy at work, so I wanted to apologize for not posting sooner.

I have several projects underway. The one project I am working on is going to be made into a poster for the York Daily Record. It is a four-part series that lists from A to Z what people think of when they think of York County.

The background image that will tie the four pages together is a watercolor of York County. Here is the watercolor in process from start to end.

First layer is a light wash, outlining border of map.

Adding more color to the edges.

Here, I added color washes to the the center. Remember to let your layers dry and work up the darker colors. You want to avoid making opaque layers when using watercolors.

Details and the colors are much more opaque.

Final painting with roads added. I used watercolor pencils to draw the road then activated it with water using a fine watercolor paint brush. Make sure you have a stead hand to get a nice line.

The published piece will be sometime in September.
