Ravens’ Ray Lewis: A look back on his career

I finished up another sports package that will run on the front page of sports in tomorrow’s York Daily Record/Sunday news.

Page design by Samantha Dellinger.

My favorite part of this page design was when I merged four separate photos from the Associated Press of Ray Lewis doing his famous dance.

The biggest challenge was getting the white lines on the field to matchup. Which they were not doing.

So, I recreated the entire green football field that Ray Lewis is dancing on.

How I did it.

I made a green rectangle and used the Noise filter and then applied a Guassian Blur to create the field.

I used the brush tool and drew white lines onto the field.

Then, I masked Ray’s legs and feet so they would be in front of the football field I made.

I also added a slight shadow underneath his feet.

For the online version I recreated the layout to fit the web width.

And I used Dipity.com to build an interactive timeline.

About Samantha Dellinger

I'm a multiplatform journalist for the York Daily Record/Sunday News. I'm also the designer for Smart magazine. Outside of work, I keep busy as a freelance illustrator. When I'm not designing or creating I enjoy hanging out with my family. I also have a somewhat crazy obsession about my English bulldog, Diesel. I do not like feet, clowns, ferris wheels and hangnails. I'm a fan of 80's new wave music. Love the Pet Shop Boys!
