Pinterest App for iphone is a favorite of mine

I spent the other day cleaning and reorganizing my apps on my iPhone. I deleted a bunch of useless games I never play, except for Angry Birds of course, love that game.

I then started moving all my social networking apps together. I also purchased a couple of new social networking apps which include: Google+, Instagram, Living Social,SQuestions and Pinterest, not the Pin it app which costs ninety-nine cents. All the apps I listed are free and available for IOS.

The Pinterest app at this time is unavailable for Android, sorry guys.

I love this app. My favorite feature is that I can now shoot photos and pin them to my boards. So, when I’m out an about I can shoot, pin and share instantly with this app.

This app is so much fun to use. Just think of all the photos I can easily shoot of my bully, Diesel, and then pin it instantly.
To purchase the app click here.

And if you want to follow me here’s the link to my Pinterest profile.

Here are my awesome boards on Pinterest that you could be following

So, as they say in the Pinterest world, “Happy Pinning!”

Other Pinterest boards I reccommend you might want to follow:

Smart magazine

Buffy Andrews, Assistant Managing Editor, York Daily Record/Sunday News. Social Media Coordinator. Write fiction for kids. Represented by Terrie Wolf of AKA Literary.

Kara Eberle, Editor of Smart magazine

Besides the mobile app, you can visit the Pinterest website.

Some other apps I have on my iPhone are:
Twitter, Foursquare, WordPress, Echofon (though I think I might delete this one because its too similar to my Twitter one), Adobe Ideas, Bump, YDR, AP,CNETQuick Scan, QR reader, Draw Something (Love this drawing game, hey I’m artist, that’s why I love it), Simple Draw, Tetris, Angry Birds, Air Horn, Flashlight, Dictionary, Cool Facts, AAA Discounts and some more which I don’t feel like listing cause I’m being a lazy typer. But I listed the ones I felt are the most used and important to me.

Do you have an app to recommend to me, if so leave a comment. I’m mostly interested in social networking and art apps, but am open to any recommendations too.

Brainstorming page design ideas really does start from rough sketches and I mean rough

Visuals and multimedia editor, Brad Jennings and I brainstormed earlier this week to come up with a main package for Sunday’s York Daily Record/Sunday News. The focus of the graphic was to show how a lot of York County people that were survey were still undecided about the primary which will be held on April 24.

Data was gathered by York College’s Institute of Applied Social Research for the Daily Record/Sunday News. From the data gathered it showed a big group of undecided voters in the area. It also reflected Scott Perry and Chris Reilly from the Republican party being ahead in the survey that was taken.

Brad sketched out some ideas for me to start designing with.

Here’s his lovely sketch.

Brad was pushing the inverted triangle, but it didn’t work out. So, I went for using the check mark. Notice the check mark sketched out is backward. (For the record that was all Brad’s doing.)

So, from Brad’s rough sketch this is what my final design looks like.

The design was created using Adobe Illustrator.

If your someone who is still undecided take the York Daily Record’s quiz.

I sometimes wish Ryan’s, social networking platform, WUPHF really existed

I was sitting at my computer this morning and talking with Niche Editor Kara Eberle and Eileen Joyce, Visual Editor, about how I wish there was an app that would just pull all my social networking accounts into one big bubble.
That’s when Kara piped in with The Office episode when Ryan comes up with WUPHF, pronounced “woof.”

Sometimes I feel like I’m redoing work several times when I engage in social media. I wish I could just type my story, add my links and photos and be done in one step.

But it’s not that easy cause I have my Twitter account, Facebook profile, LinkedIn network, Pinterest boards, cant’ forget my art blog and the handful of other blogs I contribute to. I think, I even have a YouTube account, which I’m sure I forgotten the password for. I also recently signed up for Storify and Google Plus. But, wait I forgot about my social apps like FourSquare, InstaGram and PS Express.

The band Live played at this year’s SXSW with a new front man, Chris Shinn

I normally prefer designing for a full-color page. But somtimes I don’t have that option.

A black and white design, can still be just as nice though, if done right.

I recently designed a B&W page for this week’s PopEye which is featured in FlipSide.

I was told there was no color for the page. First intial sketch was just to place a photo on page wrapping the body copy around it.

I decided to tilt the photo instead, along with the body copy. I wrapped the headline around the photo. I chose two different charcoal brush strokes in Adobe Illustrator to give a grungy-look border to the photo.

I kept the typeface clean, using Helvetica Black font for headline. The entire page design was probably done in less than 20 minutes.

Hunger Games page design

The Hunger Games opens today in theaters. I hadn’t read any of the books, but from the buzz of co-workers and the internet I could tell this movie was going to be popular. I even heard reports that the movie was becoming more popular than the Twilight movies.

So, I was intrigued with the popularity of the book turned into movie and starting researching it. I started at IMDB and read the synopsis. I then watch several trailers on Apple’s website.

I then talked to York Daily Record photographer Kate Penn who is a big fan of the book. She gave me a detailed break down of the story, so I was convinced I wanted to design the page for the movie review.

Make a bouquet of flowers using coffee filters

My husband, William, bought me one of those fancy Kuerig coffee machines for Christmas. I had unfortunately just bought a whole pack of coffee filters for my coffee machines. So, I didn’t want to throw them out, so I Googled “crafts with coffee filters.” I found plenty of ideas and tutorials on the subject.

I really liked the craft that turned the coffee filters into flowers and here’s my version of the finished bouquet.

In tommorow’s York Daily Record I explain step-by-step how I made my flowers or you can check out my video below.

Maggie my english bulldog makes her debut with Smart magazine at York’s St. Patrick’s Day parade

Maggie is one of two english bulldogs I have as part of my family. She is polar opposite to Diesel, who is laid back and spends the majority of his time lounging on the living room couch.

We adopted Maggie about four months ago and she is definitely a handful.

But, I love my bullies, they bring me a lot of joy and I often try to add a bulldog to my illustrations in the newspaper.

Here are some pics of her in this year’s St. Patrick’s Day parade.

March Madness has arrived

I designed the front page of today’s Sports section. Since the Final Four is taking place in New Orleans I came up with the idea of incorporating Mardi Gras with NCAA.

I did a quick pencil sketch of a Mardi Gras float.

I designed the page using Adobe Illustrator. The images of the basketball players are from the Associated Press. I did clipping paths around the players and then placed them in my Illustrator document.

Here is the final page design that ran in today’s York Daily Record.

An ad on my blog catches my attention… duh, it’s an add with a bulldog in it

I love bulldogs, maybe too much. I have two english bulldogs, Maggie and Diesel.

When I can, I will draw a english bulldog into a design or illustration I might be doing for the York Daily Record/Sunday News or in Smart magazine.

All of my co-workers know of my obsession and in some ways have become obsessed themselves, which I think is funny.

On my blog today I happen to notice an ad at the top right corner of my blog page.

Here’s a screenshot of my blog. I took a screenshot because the ads change on a regular basis, so you might have missed the bulldog ad.
