Rolling out of bed in the morning, check the trees and bushes in your own backyard for possible pictures. The York County Parks are excellent places to find scenics, but you might not have to go that far. This was in my backyard, and I was happy to get started early.

Alyssa Swartzy puts the finishing touches on a snowman she and her classmates made at Dillsburg Elementary Friday as part of fourth grade teacher Faith Matthews' Snowed-In Day. The class worked on projects throughout the day, using language and math skills to explain and figure the process. Students dressed as they would at home if school was cancelled because of snow.

Beauty nearby

James Shay of Lancaster braved last Thursday's snow fall with a stroll along part of the Mason-Dixon Trail near Lock 12 Recreation Park in Lower Chanceford Township. It was Shay's first outing in the area during the winter months, and said he was surprised that he didn't have to travel far to see such a pretty area.

I've always had a difficult time shooting winter and showing it as beautiful as it is. If anyone has suggestions to improve snow scenes, I'd love to hear them.
