With apologies to my friends who are hunters, deer that I hunted on Monday had nothing to fear. Herds of the creatures were everywhere, and easy to see in the Valley Forge National Historic Park snow. Shooting Bambi with a camera is my type of hunting.
Some of the park roads weren't open because of the weekend snow fall, but the scenery, both four-legged and historical, was wonderful.
Valley Forge is not a 'cannonball' historic park like Gettysburg or nearby Antietam, but still is a very important site in York history. When the British invaded Philadelphia, the fledgling U.S. government took off for York and camped out here while General George Washington kept an eye on the British from Valley Forge.
The park offers hiking/biking/jogging trails, seasonal living history docents and a nice breather from nearby King of Prussia mall and the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
