Winter on Hickory Run

HIckory Run State Park
in the foothills of the Pocono Mountains was hammered again with snow Friday, getting another 24 inches -- good news for the many nearby ski resorts.

It made for some beautiful miles through the park along state Route 534, including this peaceful scene at the site where the town of Hickory Run once stood.

Because of over-timbering early in the 1800's and the flooding it caused , dams broke in 1849, flooding the area and Saylorville and Hickory Run. Seven people died, and only three buildings-- the park office, the chapel (above) and the manor house-- remain of Hickory Run.
