Hail, hail the gang's all here

Friday's severe wind, rain and hail storms caused problems for many York Countians, including journalists trying to cover track meets and soccer games. Lightning forced suspension of soccer until the late hours, and the track meet to the next day.

Generally, all was well.

Except for some feathered creatures. Bird of prey rehabilitator Mitzi Eaton is raising four tiny screech owls that were nesting in a tree pushed down by the storm. Mitzi said she was surprised that more nestlings didn't come in because of the winds.

These four (one is hiding behind) looked like one big ball of fuzz, and they won't grow much bigger. A large adult 'screechie' would weigh a half pound and be about 10 inches tall.

Photo was taken with a 17-55 mm lens at 55mm, 1/250 second at f5.6 and 200 ISO, on-camera flash and slave from the left.
