Classes at Phineas Davis Elementary School in York have gone into 'spring' mode, with the younger classes using science to expand their language arts skills

At bottom right, kindergarten teacher Maureen Okoth-Ogola helps one of her students count the worms in her compost box. The students log their experience in a "Worm Journal".

At bottom left, Iyana Carter wasn't too excited about holding a chick, but did it anyway. By the end of the session, she didn't want to put the chick back into the box.

At top, two first-grade students check the baby chicks that hatched in the classroom and teacher Francine Jones just took out of a box for closer study.
