The world is full of sayings being bounced around this time of year, including the one about chestnuts and another favorite-- "It's the most wonderful time of the year!"
And it is. Took Amtrak into New York City Sunday to absorb some of the town's holiday spirit and again wasn't disappointed. It's unlikely it could ever get old.
While everyone was taking pictures of the store windows, the skaters on Rockefeller Plaza, the million-and-one Santa Claus hats and other assorted decorations, I preferred to shoot the vendors on the sidewalks.
That is, after watching "Mama Mia" on Broadway.
Chestnuts are a Christmas tradition, but I prefer their fragrances to their taste. I bought a bag anyway, ate a couple and gave the rest to the squirrels. It was worth the $5 to smell them in the paper bag the rest of the day. A new potpourri, maybe?
