Holtwood Dam

There might not be another single area in York County that is more picturesque, in my mind, than near PPL's Lock 12 in Lower Chanceford Township.

Creeks, hikers on the Mason-Dixon Trail, birds (including two eagles nests), the Susquehanna River and the Holtwood Dam, boaters, crazy kayakers, rhododendrons and mountain laurel. It's all here.

A few hundred seagulls were crowding the dam Wednesday looking for dinner. With plenty of water thundering over the dam, the seagulls stood out.

And before you ask, yes, there was Photoshop help, contrasting the seagull and river water.

Photo shot at 1/1000, f8 with a 500mm mirror lens.
