Flamingos in Siberia

On Feb. 20 here, it was pointed out that photographs on the internet ought to be viewed carefully and with skepticism, since there are no ethics concerning retouching, manipulating or simply giving incorrect information about the photo.

My example was of iceberg photos that were claimed to have been taken in Lake Michigan. Obviously, those pictures were very, very wrong. Location was nearly half a world away from Lake Michigan. I suggested that the next thing we'll be expected to believe are flamingos in the Arctic Circle.

On National Public Radio March 7, a program showed a Siberian family with a flamingo in their front room. Click here to see it.

Maybe anything's possible, eh?

Photo here is an illustration, a manipulation, of a flamingo wearing a Russian hat which accompanies the NPR piece. The video of flamingos falling into Siberia was shot in 2003.
