Shrewsbury Elementary School fourth grade teacher Sharon Lytle, left, helps students Alexis Bobby, Allison Rodgers and Leigha Brown (cq) pick small invertebrates off a rock found in Nixon Creek Tuesday. The students visited Nixon County Park as part of its science program "structures of life" and the environment. The park offers the field trip free to county schools.

Austin Criswell takes a close look at a caddisfly nymph with a magnifier during a visit to Nixon Park Tuesday. The students were searching for the tiny creatures to check the creek's health-- the more invertebrates, the healthier the creek.

Alexis Bobby wore boots to keep her feet dry and warm during her school's visit to Nixon Park Tuesday. Unfortunately, the creek water was higher than her boots. Teacher Sharon Lytle, behind, has learned to bring along higher boots.
