Wasting away the day

| | Comments (0)

I'm lucky.

It's part of my job to blog, search the Internet and read the newspaper.

But I bet lots of people participate in similar activities during their workdays, even if they're not supposed to.

According to a recent survey reported on by The (Baltimore) Sun, workers spend an average of 20 percent of a shift on non-work activities.

But that's good news. According to Salary.com, the amount of time wasted at work has declined in the three years since the compensation consulting firm started conducting the survey.

So what're people doing instead of working?
- surfing the Internet
- chit-chatting with co-workers
- making personal calls

And the reasons people give for wasting time?
- Not enough work to do
- long hours
- being underpaid
- lack of challenging work
