Could it happen here?

| | Comments (0)

Federal immigration officials and those close to the situation warned it would begin soon. Tuesday, more than 160 people were arrested at a food processing firm outside Cincinnati. All were illegal immigrants, according to officials. The fate of the company, Koch Foods, is still up in the air.

YDR reported earlier this year some companies in central Pennsylvania could find themselves in this same pickle - a large number of its workers snagged in one big raid. On a smaller scale than Cincinnati, something similar did happen last year at a Biglerville pallet company, so it's not outside the realm of possibility locally. What do you think?

How we decorate at the Daily Record/Sunday News

When the boss is away, the workers will play. At least here at the York Daily Record/Sunday News they will.
When Living editor Buffy Andrews went on vacation in July, a passel of pernicious people decorated her desk like an aquarium. They hung fish from the ceiling and ensconced the entire cubicle in blue plastic wrap. See the video here.

MySpace for grownups

Ever been jealous of the way your kids (or younger siblings) network on MySpace? The grownup alternative -- if you feel just a little goofy asking your boss to be your MySpace friend -- is LinkedIn. Check out the article in Stambaugh Ness' newsletter.

We work 1/10 of our lives

This is depressing, but unavoidably true.

So many people are so very unhappy in their jobs. It makes me wonder whether adulthood is really worth it. Sure, once we grow up we're autonomous and get to earn money and buy things we like. But in the end, is it worth it?

Sometimes arrested development doesn't seem like such a bad idea.

Environment 2008

Yes, I know it's only 2007, and we're already going through election fatigue in the race to replace President Bush. But I came across this http://outside.away.com/index.html link and it actually kept my attention in part because it actually showed real DIFFERENCES in the candidates' platforms on the environment.

What season is it?

Yesterday I wore a sweater to work.

Today, at least four people in the office are wearing shirts with long sleeves. Some people have heaters under their desks pumping warm air onto their feet.

And it's August.
