Weight loss center gets sued

| | Comments (5)

I hope you all caught the story in this morning’s business section about the class action lawsuit filed against Pure Weight Loss (formerly known as L.A. Weight Loss).

I feel terrible for the people who lost hundreds or thousands of dollars when the diet center closed abruptly in December.

Have you or any of your friends been members of Pure Weight Loss? Did you lose a lot of money?

Or do you belong to other weight-loss programs? What have your experiences been with them?

Resveratrol Supplements can help you control your weight naturally
by increasing energy, reducing cravings, and limiting your appetite.
According to Wikipedia, Consumer Lab, an independent dietary
supplement and over the counter products evaluation organization,
published a report on 13 November 2007 on the popular resveratrol
supplements. The organization reported that there exists a wide range
in quality, dose, and price among the 13 resveratrol products
evaluated. The actual amount of resveratrol contained in the
different brands range from 2.2mg for Revatrol, which claimed to have
400mg of "Red Wine Grape Complex", to 500mg for Biotivia.com Transmax,
which is consistent with the amount claimed on the product's label.
Prices per 100mg of resveratrol ranged from less than $.30 for
products made by Biotivia.com, jarrow, and country life, to a high of
$45.27 for the Revatrol brand. None of the products tested were found
to have significant levels of heavy metals or other contaminants.

Stick to Weight Watchers! It works better than anything else and it is a way of life not a quick fix!

I have been on Weight Watchers since February of 2006. I have lost 120 pounds, went from size 24 to a size 10 and never feel deprived of anything. I still have about 25 more pounds to go, and I'm sticking with Weight Watchers--works better than anything else I've tried.

I was one of those stunned clients of Pure Weight Loss. I went back after my Christmas vacation and found the doors closed. One of the last remaining employees came to the door and explained what happened and gave me a refund form to fill out and mail to their corporate office. I was just a couple of weeks away from completing my year of maintenance. Also, I had recently paid $99 to continue my membership consultations for the next year. At no point during the whole time I was on Pure Weight Loss, did I feel pressured to purchase their additional products. I bought what I felt I needed or wanted. Since I maintained my weight loss for a year, I would have been eligible for my 50% refund, if they would have stayed open just a few more weeks. They didn't call to notify active clients that they were closing. I asked why and was told that current clients came in often enough to find out on their own. Non-active clients were supposedly called, though. I, like the others, feel a great loss. This plan worked very well for me. I maintained my weight loss, and for once I didn't quit. I do feel that they quit on me, though. Luckily, I can use their weight loss principals to continue this lifestyle on my own (I once belonged to Weight Watchers. It worked temporarily). I appreciate everything the consultants at Pure Weight Loss did for me during this whole experience but the company should be responsible for the money we all invested.

Jessica:
Thanks for a good story. You captured the human side of this unfortunate situation in a very compassionate way.
The website FranchisePick.com is published down the road from you in Lancaster. We've been serving as the unofficial info center for victims of Pure Weight Loss. There are hundreds of comments from PWL members, and a resource center for steps to take in trying to secure a refund.
Painful lesson: Don't prepay. The discount's not worth the risk.
