A lot of former members of Leader Health and Fitness are notably upset that their gym closed yesterday with about 24 hours of notice and their memberships were transfered to the Athletic Club of York. (If you didn't catch the story you check find it here.)
So far 67 people have left comments on the story. Here's what some of them had to say:
"The Health Club Act states that from facility to facility it has to be less than 10 miles, it is 10.88 miles from Leader Health to The Athletic Club.(If you take 83 to 30) Therefore the contracts should be void. Hope more people complain to the Attorney General like I have!" -- Angry
"They informed employees of the closing THIS morning at a staff meeting. One staff member pointed out that the owners would have expected a two week notice if we had planned to leave. Is it ridiculous to expect the same courtesy from the boss, especially in this economy?
As a final insult, the owners didn't even attend the meeting, instead expecting the management team to deliver the news." -- employee
"My family have been going there since it opened as Leader Health, always enjoyed the place. BUT 6 days ago we renewed our membership and paided for the pool,now we are stuck driving across town!! First of all kudos to the Athletic club of York. Tim and Travis are both stand up guys. I am one of the lucky ones? I am just a few months away from completing my 18 month contract. I have disputed the prorated charge for the month of June for my husband and my (couples membership), in addition, I filed a complaint with the attorney general's office. I am pleased to know that they are investigating already. I am not sure how these clowns thought they were going to cut and run, leaving so many high and dry. I was always a relatively satisfied member, although in hindsight their lack of care for equipment etc. makes much more sense to me now. Karma bites hard- I won't be surprised to see these goof balls do some time, or at the least have many years of refunds and fines to pay for their unethical business practices. If these guys truly are financial planners and other business owners their current customers better watch out. In addition, I would imagine their are ethical licensing standards for their professions as financial guys- hope they lose their license if they have one. I learned a valuable lesson from all of this so far.

3. Leader health and fitness had a whole lot of members that sure are very smart people- way to go- to all of us who did not sit passively by and get taken advantage of.

Sorry to hear about what happened at Leader. That's wrong on many different levels and gives all gyms a bad name.
We are Ultimate Gym and Fitness in New Freedom. We are a locally owned and operated gym. We don't have all the bells and whistles you see in the huge clubs and franchises but you will get a great work out in and uncrowded gym with great members. We have Cybex, Icarian, Hammer Strength and Free Weight equipment as well as various cardio equipment.
We have Daily, Monthly or Quarterly rates with specials for Police, Fire, EMS, Military and Students. No contracts just pay as you go.

I have lived across the road from LH&F for more than 35 years,when the property back then was nothing but a field. My only comment is what was printed in the York Sunday newspaper and I quote,"York Township never should have sold the former Wynfield Club"
I am one of the unfortunate parents who signed my daughter up for summer camp at leader health. This is the first time I have ever sent my daughter to camp for the summer. I received a flyer from her school and immediately signed her up. Of course, half the money was due at registration & the other half due 2 weeks later. Needless to say, I found out by the morning newspaper that leader health closed its doors. I never received a formal letter until a week later, the day my daughter was due to start camp. I have been in a battle with an answer machine ever since to refund my money. They actually tried to make me pay a processing fee because of not attending the camp, even though my contract stated a processing fee would be charged if withdrawn from the camp. Needless to say I had to find something quick for my daughter to attend over summer. Thanks to leader closing & no notice I now have to pay double what I had already paid to them, and I have not been reimbursed. Thanks for putting all us parents in a pinch!
Hey ! leave the worries do you want to make your body fit and fine. Its just depend on your choice what do you want for yourself . You can join any good gym center and their are also some good health and fitness centers you can join one of them. But the most important thing is you should have to keep concentrate on your diet if your diet is good then you can see your body might be glowing.
