I don't mean that I'm literally getting fatter over here, but I thought some of the information in this TreeHugger series is really interesting.
First the blog includes this map showing the obesity percentages in each state.
Then there are links to a whole bunch of different things that contribute to this.
Here's a sampling:
Cheap gas makes us fat.
U.S. cities make us fat.
The government makes us fat.
Architecture can make us fat.
Some of this is hilarious. Some of it seems ridiculous.
I think the overall point is that society is encouraging us to be lazier and eat crappier food.
We'd all be healthier if we walked/rode bikes more and bought less processed, bad-for-us food.
We'd probably save a whole bunch of money too.
