Driving away with our money

Today is the day when Americans will find out how GM and Chrysler plan to save their companies and stay competitive in the world-wide auto industry.

No, it's not.

Let's not delude ourselves, if just for a minute.

I'll tell you what's going to happen today.

Both GM and Chrysler will go before federal officials this morning and offer up some vague plan thought up by a basement-dwelling drone who is forever surrounded by staplers and Hot Pocket wrappers.

Of course that plan will include the asking for more of our tax dollars to keep these companies alive, at least until the next time they need cash.

Federal officials will listen to the plans and yell and chastise the company reps for not having a good strategy.

In the end, GM and Chrysler will get their cash and the federal officials will appear as if they were hard on the greedy CEOs.

But that's how it always turns out. That's the deal that the fed makes with these executives.

Federal officials will come down hard and make it look like the doing something. That's what wins elections, folks.

And companies slink away with heads hanging low and their pockets full of billions in tax payer cash.

Hey, it's the American way.
