The more, the merrier?

A good-size crowd visited Wisehaven Swimming Pool in Windsor Township Monday.

The lines at the snack bar and sliding board weren't too long. A few lanes of the adult pool were occupied; a few were open.

The grassy area around the pool was mostly filled with people on blankets and beach chairs, catching up on what happened during the preceding winter and chatting excitedly about plans for the coming summer.

There's a fine line, however, between "a good-size crowd" and a pool that's "overcrowded."

That's what worries Leslie Templeton, whose family has owned Wisehaven since 1961.

A lot more people want to join Wisehaven this year, after the abrupt closure of a neighboring pool, Spring Valley.

Templeton wants to be able to accommodate everyone. Every kid should have a place to swim during the summer, she says.

Nevertheless, the pool had to form a waiting list for the first time in many years. That's a tough situation for Templeton, who now regularly gets phone calls from hopeful swimmers.

Templeton runs a very personable business. She appears to know most -- if not all -- of her members by name, exchanging light-hearted talk with them around the snack bar about a recent soccer tournament or whatever else is going on in their world.

When those members head to Wisehaven for a leisurely swim, they don't want to wait too long at the sliding board or the snack bar.

"So far, it hasn't been crowded," said Jen Teyral, a York Township resident who made the switch this year from Spring Valley to Wisehaven. "It's great. It's been awesome."
