I stopped at a Redbox in Dover Township this afternoon and was not pleased to discover that the popular DVD rental kiosk had raised its price from $1 to $2 per night.

What's up with that?

Redbox made its name by renting DVD's for $1 per night, a good and inexpensive form of entertainment during this time of recession.

My first inclination, as if I was personally slighted, is to stop renting from Redbox. What do you think?

I think even at $2.00 it is a good deal. I wish it were minus the tax that then makes it $2.12. I wish they would let you hold the DVD longer than 24 hours. I feel so rushed to return it that I do not fully enjoy the experience.

I noticed the change a few days ago in the South End - right as our Blockbuster is going out of business and I am receiving offers from their Mail service along with Netflix and just this Friday, an advertising post card from Red Box tauting the $1 for 1 night offer - I guess their printer wasn't kept up to date.

I now live in Philly, but all the Red Box's here are still $1 plus tax. Kevin, you can keep the movies longer than one night, they just charge you for a second night on your credit card.

I just noticed this as well, although i think it's $2 for the first night and $1 for additional nights. It doesn't make it nearly as attractive, but at $2 it's still a deal if you intend to watch the movie that day.

If you get a code off the internet, your first night can be free and I am getting a deal with my Discover Card for the first night free rentals.
