Our recent story about local uses for iPhone apps ("York residents use iPhone apps," May 16) drew an interesting response from a reader, Helen O'Planick, of Manchester.

She uses CardStar, which consolidates "membership and reward cards for numerous national and regional merchants," according to the company.

"Instead of searching your pockets when you're ready to make a purchase, check in at the gym or sign out a library book, just hold out your phone for the cashier to scan...and you're on your way," the New York Daily News wrote in reviewing the free app last year.

O'Planick keeps her Giant bonus card on CardStar, which "saves the keychain," she said.
