Coupons can be great. I read a article one time how they can easily get you to buy a product you usually wouldn't and/or buy more than you need.
I'm a casual coupon shopper, I could do better but I'm too lazy. I particularly don't like to see that I need to buy 5 of something only to save $1.
It does take work, and a bit of time. But it seems to pay off for those who do want to collect coupons.
