Frito-Lay plans to return most flavors of SunChips to their old packaging after the company received complaints about the noise generated by its new compostable bags, the Associated Press reported Tuesday.

The company will keep using the compostable bags for its original plain flavor, the AP said.

The bags break down within 14 weeks when placed in a hot, active compost bin or pile, according to the company.

The compostable bags make more noise than normal bags "because the plant-based materials used to make our compostable bag have different sound qualities than the materials used to make our other bags," Frito-Lay said.

"Clearly, we'd received consumer feedback that it was noisy," Aurora Gonzalez, a Frito-Lay spokeswoman, told USA Today.

Frito-Lay is based in Plano, Texas, and operates a plant in West Manchester Township.
