Have any Yorktowne Hotel memories? We'd like to hear from you.
We know the hotel has much history with York County, beyond a regular overnight stay.

When I was a young boy back in the sixties my grandfather, James T. Duffy would come to town on business and to visit family.Prior to moving to Bryn Mar, PA he was President of the former Read Machinery Company located on Richland Ave. During his visits he would stay at the Yorktowne Hotel.
On Sunday during these visits, he would come to our house and load all 8 of his grandchildren into his Lincoln Continental convertible and take us to the Yorktowne for breakfast. Waffles were our favorite and the Yorktowne had the best waffles or so it seemed to a child. All the boys (5) would also get their their shoes shined. Those memories still come back when I visit the Yorktowne today.
As a student at York College I produced a historical documentary about the Yorktowne. You can view it here:

When I was a child in the 1960's I danced for Yvonne Ernst dance studio. Almost every Saturday evening our Yvonne would take different classes and we would dance for the different bus tours that were staying at the Yorktowne. Our payment was a small soda and a small ice cream sundae. At that time that was a big treat. We really did look forward the hot fudge sundae at the end of the evening.
f you live, or have ever lived, in York, Pa., you have more than one memory about the Yorktowne Hotel. In fact, you most likely have a dozen or more memories. From the time our family moved to York in the early 60s, the Yorktowne Hotel has been the place family, friends and myself have stayed. It was so unique the way the bellhops used to dress in Colonial garb from their tights to their hats. I even worked at the front desk in the 80s for a stint, have hung out at the bar with friends, eaten in the restaurants and attended my sister's wedding there!! There really is no place like The Yorktowne Hotel, and I can't imagine the town without it! I stayed there when I attended my 35th HS reunion a few years ago, and will likely stay there again.
