I checked in with Joe Bartolo earlier this week to see how his Black Friday went.

Bartolo, holding the framed picture at left, is the owner of JJ Cards N Toys at the York Galleria in Springettsbury Township. We featured him in a story in Friday's paper about local stores getting ready for the big day.

JJ Cards N Toys, which sells sports memorabilia and novelties, saw a 35-percent increase in sales between this Black Friday and last, Bartolo said.

The store, which planned to open at 4:30 a.m., ended up opening at 4:10, Bartolo said. People were already in the mall, Bartolo said, thanks to the anchor stores being open early.

Bartolo is pleased with the healthy Black Friday turnout, but he's trying not to get too far ahead of himself. Taking a page out of the professional athlete's media playbook (appropriately, for a sports memorabilia retailer), Bartolo told me that he's "taking it one day at a time."

The store will probably run some sales as the holiday season progresses, Bartolo said. It also plans to host Eagles running back LeSean McCoy for a signing this weekend, which should bring in heavy crowds, boosting sales.
