Gas prices are continuing to decrease locally, according to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report.
As of Tuesday morning, the average price for a regular gallon locally was about $3.71, according to the report. That's down from about $3.83 one week before, the report states.
Four local gas stations Tuesday morning offered gallons of regular for $3.65, the lowest price locally, according to yorkgasprices.com. Those stations included Sheetz, 2721 S. Queen St.; Royal Farms, 2605 S. Queen St.; Giant, 275 Pauline Drive; and BJ's, 2250 York Crossing Drive.
Those prices may seem low compared to what we've been seeing the last couple of weeks, but they still leave something to be desired, given that the average price for a regular gallon locally was about $2.72 at this time last year, according to AAA.
With that being said, here are a couple of tips to improve gas mileage, courtesy of Max Bohbot, president of www.beezid.com, an auction site:
-- Drive consistently and carefully. Avoid braking hard or accelerating quickly.
-- Maintain well-inflated tires.
-- Use a GPS to cut down on your chances of getting lost, which can waste time and gas.
-- If you're going to idle your car for more than a minute, turn off the engine. If it's going to be under one minute, leave it running.
