Frozen Giant turkey finally cooked one year later

This is my free Thanksgiving turkey after I plucked it from a freezer at Giant last year.

Last year, I got a free 20-pound turkey from Giant.

I just like free things.

But, to be honest, I didn’t know what to do with it. (Aside from posing it in weird positions.)

I’m usually a pretty good cook, but I’m not sure how to handle an entire bird.

I didn’t even have a pan that would fit this sucker.

So it sat in my fridge and took up space. Until last week.

Last week, I realized I’m a few bonus points away from ANOTHER free turkey.

My freezer simply won’t fit another one.

So, made a deal with my mom: You cook this year-old beast for me, you can keep some of it.

So that’s what she did.

And it still tasted pretty good.

My mom claims she’s cooked turkeys that were frozen for two years and they’ve still been delicious.

What’s the longest you’ve kept the bird?

Lauren this is an interesting question. I wonder if a mission would take these frozen Turkeys (not the year old ones, but the ones that just don’t end up getting cooked for thanksgiving)

I think Giant offers you the opportunity to give it to the food bank on the spot at the store. I didn’t know about that option last year, though.

Thinking I’ll have to do that this year. I’m turkeyed out. :)
