Kohl's news good stuff for store fans

| | Comments (8)

We've heard the rumors for MONTHS about how Kohl's was thinking about moving into the former space that housed Value City at the West Manchester Mall.

Friday, we finally saw the permits that Kohl's is seeking space at the mall.

I'm a fan of Kohl's, and go ahead, call me wimpy about driving, but I don't like to fight the traffic to get over to the east end of York to shop at Kohl's. The possibility of a store on the west end of town is welcome news to many.

But it begs another question? Will we have duplicates of so many stores that we no longer have to venture to "the other end of town?" And, is that really a good thing?

Meanwhile, we will keep you posted on the latest department store developments.

It's what the calendar says

National Boss' Day.

Well, it's what my calendar says for today, Oct. 16.

It looks like one department here in the newsroom is having fun with the sports editor's cubicle.

Job news coming out of Voith Hydro

| | Comments (0)

We had the governor visit York County -- specifically, Voith -- on Tuesday touting energy jobs and hydropower.

Voith has seen its fair share of news lately. After some negotiations, the company and union reached a contract agreement in September.

And it was only a short year ago, that then, Senator Barack Obama visited the plant on a campaign stop.

More crockpot news: Oh how I love ham

| | Comments (2)

whole-ham.jpgMy dad, one of 17 in his family, grew up on a farm.

And they would butcher pigs. Dad used to tell me that everything except the pig's squeal was used in the butchering processs. He wasn't the first to share that saying, but its meaning certainly holds true: Nothing goes to waste.

Thankfully, I've taken that "nothing goes to waste" philosophy to my cooking. And it saved me in both time and money this week.

More free food coming to York County

| | Comments (0)

I've never dined at a Chilpotle, but from the buzz in the newsroom it's rumored to be good food.
There's one opening in Springettbury Township next week, and they are giving out free food.

Get in line early, folks.

More crockpot news, this time it's pork and sauerkraut

| | Comments (3)

To be clear, I never liked pork and sauerkraut when I was a kid. And mashed potatoes? Forget it.

But, my husband does and my son likes the pork. Those are reasons enough for making it. And after putting together a cheap and easy meal with pork and sauerkraut, I kind of like it now too. We all have to make some sacrifices. :-)

And making it in the crockpot? Holy simple.

York restaurant inspections

| | Comments (0)

Lots of interest in a recent York restaurant inspection. A Chinese restaurant in downtown York had been shut down for a few days by the city. And, it failed a re-inspection. It's back open now. Our reporters have been covering the story since its closing.
We cover restaurant inspections regularly to keep folks up-to-date with city restaurants. Check them out on our business section.
