So what will the INSIDE of CODO look like?

| | Comments (3)

We've seen the construction on the outside of the CODO building at 241 N. George St. for months, so below are some pictures recently released showing what's inside the property.

It looks fairly sharp, and you can see the George Street skyline outside the one window.

The project is expected to be completed in March. Click here for more information, including how to rent one of the lofts. Applications are currently being accepted.

A little background: CODO is a more than $11-million redevelopment project of the former York Auto Parts building, 241 N. George St. The structure will feature loft-style apartments, a rooftop lounge and street-level cafe. The building, with units designed for renters, is expected to attract young professionals to York.

So what do you think? Is this somewhere you would want to live?

Is it fair for Citigroup to stop foreclosing on people?

| | Comments (0)

foreclosure.jpg

Citigroup is one of the biggest banks standing after the last round of failures around the industry, and today it said it won't be foreclosing on people who want to stay in their homes.

How would you feel if you saved all your money and bought nothing you wanted just so you could pay your mortgage, and your neighbor parked a big boat in the driveway and put in a pool, then told Citigroup he was out of money and couldn't pay ... and they let him off the hook for a while?

I bet more people will go out and get a boat and a pool. Is this a message financial institutions should be sending?

Everything I know about work, I learned from Jim Halpert

So last night's episode of The Office taught us all about babies and baby showers.

Here are some quick take away points:

It's polite to hold showers at work, but it's really only necessary if an employee or their spouse is the one having the baby. No need to hold a shower for a employee's ex.

Super expensive strollers that promise various safety features probably hold up under normal circumstances. Being dragged behind a car however may cause damage.

I can't say for sure, but I'd be willing to bet money that practicing for a baby's delivery by birthing a watermelon (even one that is coated in butter to make it more realistic) probably won't prepare you for the actual event.

I'm sure I'm missing a bunch of other good lessons, but those are the three that really struck me. Feel free to leave your lessons in the comments.

The six phases of work: It's about time we had a laugh

| | Comments (2)

My boss got this e-mail forwarded to her from a friend and sent it on to me. I think it's about time we had a nice break from all the doom and gloom economy news for something a little more enjoyable.

Read after the jump for a good laugh.

Should York County students rethink college because of debt?

| | Comments (5)

college.jpg

I can't think of a worse investment than a college education right now. Houses, cars and even AIG stock are at bargain prices, but the prices for degrees keep going up. And the resulting debt looks scarier by the day, considering the job markets.

Just look at the amount of debt students are taking on just to get a degree - $22,000 on average. That's more money than people pay for anything except their houses

I think this is just as dangerous as the mortgage mess. Sure it's less money than a house costs, but it's also debt taken on by people who are beginning their lives, and have absolutely no savings to fall back on.

I seriously think we need to rethink our education system in this country because of debt issues. After the mortgage mess, any system that convinces people they need something to live the American dream - and puts them in debt to get it - needs to be reconsidered.

What do you think?

Pfaltzgraff closing outlets and local distribution center

| | Comments (1)

Quick take a peek at the bottom of your plate, bowl or mug. Do you see the Pfaltzgraff marking?

Chances are you might. These dishes seem to be everywhere.

At least that's the case for me and a few of my co-workers.

When we heard the news that the company was closing retail outlet stores and the local distribution center, we all started talking about how all of our dishes were made by that company.

I remember eating off Pfaltzgraff dishes as a kid in my parents house. What do you remember about the company? Leave a message in the comments section and let us know!

For parents: Why kids playing video games is a good thing

| | Comments (0)

Almost every child in America plays video games, according to this study. I wanted to cry when I read it. I didn't play video games, and about half my friends didn't.

But I'm willing to bet the kids who played video games in my high school class now make more money than those who didn't.

Why?
