Mix of York County business news

| | Comments (0)

Miss some of the biz news last week? Here are some highlights.

Harley union members met with Rendell on Friday. The governor is optimistic. The company is making no guarantees.

Was it a slow news day in Peach Bottom on Monday? Maybe. But when transformer closes roadways for hours, you are bound to want to take a look.

And the Cash for Clunkers information? It changed hourly.

Jeep driver: Waving is important

Camaraderie among Jeep owners is a major reason to drive one, said Larry Dawson, a Jeep enthusiast from Baltimore who attended this weekend's PA Jeeps show at the York Expo Center.

Jeep drivers usually acknowledge each other out on the road, Dawson said.

Some greetings are subtle, Dawson said, like drivers exchanging nods or smiles while stopped in adjacent lanes at a red light.

Equally as subtle are the drivers who casually lift their fingers off the steering wheel to wave to another Jeep driver heading in the opposite direction.

But the ultimate Jeep greeting, Dawson said, happens when a driver has removed his or her doors and is then able to administer a low wave that the door would have otherwise blocked.

Stay safe, Jeep drivers, and please leave a comment to share your stories of memorable Jeep waves.

Update: Another boat looker

Awhile ago I said I was watching a boat for sale along my route to work in West Manchester Township, simply to gauge whether the economy is making a turn for the better.

I saw two lookers so far, and a third appeared this morning, and got close enough to read the contact information. Maybe that boat will be purchased soon.

Send us your 'Wheels' photos

I was talking to Rose Hayes the other day.

Don't know Rose? She's a copy editor/web editor/pet lover/and just a great person to know.

She also handles our "Wheels of the Week" feature for our Drive section. We get lots of submissions for the feature, but Rose warned me that we could use some more.

So, here's my plug: Send us your submissions, here's how:
If you have a special vehicle, the York Daily Record/Sunday News would like to see a photo. Send a snapshot of your ride, as well as some basic information about the car
and what makes it special, including anywhere interesting you've traveled in it, to:

Rose Hayes, York Daily Record/Sunday News, 1891 Loucks Road, York 17408. Or e-mail your photo to rose@ydr.com. Make sure the subject line of your e-mail
says "Wheels of the Week."

Include your name, address and daytime telephone number, as well as the names of any people in the photograph and when and where the picture was taken. If you want photos returned to you, please include a stamped, self-addressed envelope.

Photos sent by e-mail should preferably be in jpeg format and at least 200 dpi.

It's not limited to cars. We'd also like to see your special motorcycles, trucks,
RVs, ATVs, tractors or anything else with wheels.
