Jeep driver: Waving is important

Camaraderie among Jeep owners is a major reason to drive one, said Larry Dawson, a Jeep enthusiast from Baltimore who attended this weekend's PA Jeeps show at the York Expo Center.

Jeep drivers usually acknowledge each other out on the road, Dawson said.

Some greetings are subtle, Dawson said, like drivers exchanging nods or smiles while stopped in adjacent lanes at a red light.

Equally as subtle are the drivers who casually lift their fingers off the steering wheel to wave to another Jeep driver heading in the opposite direction.

But the ultimate Jeep greeting, Dawson said, happens when a driver has removed his or her doors and is then able to administer a low wave that the door would have otherwise blocked.

Stay safe, Jeep drivers, and please leave a comment to share your stories of memorable Jeep waves.
