Restaurant renaissance

While retailers such as Office Depot and Circuit City are disappearing from the local landscape, restaurants seem to be doing just fine during this time of economic turmoil.

Since the beginning of the year, both the Wild Tuna Bar & Grill and Pomodoro's Italian Restaurant & Grill have opened in York County boasting solid menus and positive attitudes despite the fact that more people tend to eat at home during a recession.

And don' t think it's just independent restaurateurs looking to make a little cash off of local residents.

I pay my mortgage...where's my rescue plan?

Now, I know that the Obama administration's $75 billion housing rescue plan promises to save millions facing foreclosure.

But what about the millions of homeowners, like myself, who have continued to pay their mortgage on time, month in and month out?

I want to be a rock star

What do Garbage Pail Kids and President Barack Obama have in common?

Wait for it. Wait for it.

Yes, you got it. They both have their own trading cards.

Driving away with our money

Today is the day when Americans will find out how GM and Chrysler plan to save their companies and stay competitive in the world-wide auto industry.

No, it's not.

Let's not delude ourselves, if just for a minute.

Worried about taxes? Chill out.

Try not to get too stressed out about your tax refund this year.

You don't want to end up like Ricardo Chavez Cintron, who is now in Lackawanna County Prison after allegedly punching his wife and grabbing her by the throat during a fight over their tax refund check, according to the Associated Press.

According to the AP:

Cintron attacked his wife, Miriam Rivera, after she told her husband that she needed $800 of the refund to buy a car.

Cintron, who is charged with assault and harassment, told police he was supposed to keep $900 of the refund for himself, and his wife would not give him the money.

So, if you're feeling stressed out about your taxes, take a walk around the block, listen to some music or count to 10.

Still not buying the airline pillow.

So, my husband read my post this weekend and laughed at me.

He's like, "You don't fly." He's right, I don't fly ... often. Maybe once every two years.

But, I'm telling ya, if I do fly in the future, I'm not paying $7 for a freaken airline pillow!

Hey, can I not pay my bills like California?

| | Comments (0)

For anyone who has seen the movie Office Space, the part where the main character exclaims that he's no longer going to pay bills simply because he doesn't want to is classic.

Now, it looks like the state California is taking a few lessons from the cult classic.

State officals have stated that California is halting about $4 billion in bill payments due to vendors, grants to college students and funding for organizations that serve the disabled.

Also, I'd make other plans if I were a California resident waiting for my state tax return.

Arnold, this not the way one gets re-elected. And no, you won't be back.

I wonder what would happen if I stopped paying my bills?

Would I get a federal bailout that most of California is hoping to net?

No, I would lose my house, my car and just about everything else I own.

News from York's Market and Penn Street Farmer's Market

A coworker forwarded this Exchange post to me. Looks like a group is getting together to form a 'Friends of Farmers Market' group for the West Market Street market.
They would like local farmers market fans to join and preserve the market. Let us know what you think.

Can I bring my own pillow?

pillow.jpgIf you want comfort, it's going to cost you.
If I want a pillow on my US Airways flight, I now have to pay for it. There's a fee for pillows on airplanes. To be fair, US Airways is not the first airline to make you pay for it.
No thanks. I'll just bring my own.
