Troubling trees

backyard.jpg As you might see from the photograph, my Leyland Cypress trees have started to brown from the bottom.

I also found some fire ants at the base of at least two of the trees.

I water the trees every other day. Any ideas on a cause or low-cost solution?

Arm & Hammer hits the 4,600 mark

As of noon Wednesday, 4,653 people have applied for jobs at Church & Dwight's new Arm & Hammer plant in Jackson Township, according to PA CareerLink York County.

Update: Another boat looker

Awhile ago I said I was watching a boat for sale along my route to work in West Manchester Township, simply to gauge whether the economy is making a turn for the better.

I saw two lookers so far, and a third appeared this morning, and got close enough to read the contact information. Maybe that boat will be purchased soon.

What people earn in the York-Hanover area

Full-time workers in the York-Hanover metropolitan area made $19.12 an hour, on average, in October 2008, according to a survey released Monday morning by the U.S. Department of Labor's bureau of labor statistics.

According to the bureau, registered nurses made $29.21 an hour, general office clerks made $14.50 and fast food and counter workers made $8.23, all averages.
