What book got you hooked on reading?
According to First Book, the children’s literacy organization that provides new books to children in need, for many adults it was a Nancy Drew mystery.
The organization’s recent online poll garnered lots of responses, including those from celebrities like Rebecca Romijn, Bow Wow, David Duchovny, John Krasinski, Joan Allen, Marlee Matlin, John Lithgow, Lisa Loeb, Joshua Bell, Tyler James Williams and Shane Sparks. All of their stories about the books that got them hooked on reading are featured on the First Book Web site at http://www.firstbook.org/whatbook.
I must admit I was also a Nancy Drew fan. I remember asking my mother if our house (a three-bedroom ranch) had secret passages. She said she didn’t think so, but I could look for them if I liked. Smart lady. That kept me busy for an hour.
I also loved the Trixie Belden series, Cherry Ames, and the Bobbsey Twins.
Who got you hooked on books?

My mom read to me for as long as I can remember, but "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" in second grade really got me going. I mean, what kid doesn't love candy?
"Charlie" launched me into the quirky, imaginary world of Roald Dahl that any kid can appreciate.
I read the Nancy Drew books and the Trixie Belden books, plus lots of other stuff that I wasn't supposed to (if my parents said it was above my head, of course, I read it.)
I loved the Nancy Drew mysteries, Little Women and a book called The Five Little Peppers. I also loved the Ramona Quimby books by Beverly Cleary.
I can relate to this blog since I "accidently" majored in English. However, reading all the neat homeschool curriculum books got me hooked. Hope to see some good suggestions and reviews.
