The author: Jay Young, 46, lives in Spring Garden Township. An executive manager, attorney and adviser, he has worked with many Fortune 500 companies as well as nonprofits.
What it’s about: Using 202 observations he has gleaned from his many years in management, Young helps readers become more effective.

Audience: While Young admits he wrote the book mainly for business professionals, he says the principals can be used to become more effective in personal relationships as well.
Excerpt: At the outset it is important to note that no one is perfect. We all struggle with self-doubt, interpersonal conflicts and project overload from time to time. Despite our best attempts, some days we fall down. However, the really effective keep the time on the ground to a minimum and the rate of verticality at a maximum. To become one of the highly successful people, it takes more than traits, intellect and good intentions. It takes sustained preparation, commitment and resilience.
Book signings: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 2 at Borders Books & Music, 3000 Whiteford Road, Springettsbury Township.
To buy: Books can be purchased at Borders Books & Music, amazon.com or areyouineffective.com.
