Ervin R. Stutzman, author of " Emma: A Widow among the Amish," will speak at Metzler Mennonite Church in Ephrata at 7 p.m. June 2 in a free program sponsored by the Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society.

Stutzman’s book tells the story of his Amish mother, widowed at a young age with six children, one of them disabled. The book gives readers a close look at life in an Amish community at mid-century.

The title of Ervin’s illustrated presentation is “Serendipity, Sweat and the Sweet Taste of Telling a Family Story.” He will reflect on the joys and challenges of writing family history.

This is Ervin’s second book of historical fiction about his family of origin, following "Tobias of the Amish," about his father who died when he was 3
