thething

Here is a review from one of our readers, Carla Garnett of Lanham, Md.:

"Here’s the Thing" … a perfect beach book!
What happens when an annual gal pal retreat turns into a Bohemian wedding/family reunion free-for-all? Hilarity, if you're reading Laura Rudacille’s debut novel, "Here’s the Thing," available at http://www.buybooksontheweb.com/.

The women wanted only to get away from it all — husbands, kids, work, stress — for few days for a little RR&R (rest, relaxation & retail therapy, by way of a renowned flea market). But noooooooooo! Georgia’s unfocused, unemployed but lovable cousin sets his wedding for the same time, same place.

The fun begins on the drive up to a formerly peaceful upstate New York cabin, where a full-scale remodeling project is in under way just days before the nuptials.

You’ll meet Georgia’s two small and adorably wise sons, who wheedle their way into front-row seats on what was supposed to be a ladies-only getaway … Georgia's brother Heath, a heroic one-man construction crew who has the patience of Job and the grit of a Marine ... Georgia’s mom, whose second-wind lifestyle includes hysterical attempts at Spanish language immersion … and the rest of these quirky, but relatively harmless relatives. Midway through you’ll wonder how in the world Georgia can possibly salvage a respite out of this wreckage of a long weekend. With humor, of course.

Stick with southcentral Pennsylvania’s Rudacille, whose first literary foray will have you laughing ‘til the tears fall, as the entire family pitches in to get one nutty bride and groom hitched without sacrificing (too much) sanity. Stuff the Thing in your beach bag (or brief case!) -- you won't regret it.

If you think Murphy's Law was written for you - if your dysfunctional family sends your life spinning like the proverbial top - "Here's the Thing..."! Nothing is ever under control as this seemingly normal family gathers to celebrate the wedding of a happy-go-lucky, so-in-love, devil-may-care couple. But... "Here's the Thing..." in her first novel, Laura Rudacille has set an unbelievably high standard for herself. As you turn the last page, you can't but help anticipate the sequel. What could possibly happen next to our newly weds??
