'The Alienist'

I needed a new book to read, so my husband recommended 'The Alienist.'

I must warn you, if you have a good imagination for picturing stories and a weak stomach,the_alienist.jpg this isn't a good combination for reading this book. Also, if you plan on having a life, I suggest not reading it. The 597 page book consumed my every free moment. Author Caleb Carr had me turning page after page and making excuses to read just one more chapter with each cliffhanger he delivered.

The book chronicles five professionals (a journalist, two police officers, a police secretary and a psychologist) as they trail a serial killer near the turn of the 20th century. Parts of it can be rather disturbing, but the whole time you just want to know who is committing the terrible crimes and how they are going to stop him.

It's a murder mystery sprinkled with historical details about New York City. If you have the time, I say check it out.
