Fourth 'Odd' book is not Dean's finest hour
I've been reading Dean Koontz for more than 15 years.
His books are like candy to me.
I read "The Husband" twice, because I didn't get enough the first time.
I read "Intensity" standing up, in the middle of the night, in the bathroom of my dorm room because my roommate was asleep and I didn't want to wake her while I was a slave to his writing.
I'm a pretty big fan.
But recently, I haven't been impressed.
"The Darkest Evening of the Year" was, well, dark. And, while I'm used to Koontz's twisted storylines, it was one of my least favorites.
Then I saw that the fourth Odd Thomas book was out.
The third Odd book didn't impress me. But I was yearning for a good, fast-paced read, so I splurged for "Odd Hours" in hardback.
So far it's been a disappointment, and I don't even want to keep reading.
He has taken a detour from his usually short, snappy chapters and had a chase scene that seemed to go on for....ev....er.
I'm not done with the book, so I won't call it a failure...yet.
But these days, spending money on a book is a luxury that some of us need to think twice about. And I'm wondering if I should have spent that 20-some dollars on something else.
Any other Koontz fans out there? What have you thought of his recent books????
