Book crossing

One of my former college roommates is obsessed with something called Book Crossing.

You might have heard of it. Maybe from the stamp inside a paperback in your dentist's waiting room, the stickers on stacks of free books in a local coffee shop.

Here's how it works:

You go to www.bookcrossing.com and create a profile for yourself.

You then list books you'd like to have and books you own that you'd like to pass on.

Someone who has a book you want might offer to send it to you. Or you can see who wants a book you're ready to part with and send it to a new home.

There's also something called releasing books into the wild (when you leave them in public places for others to find and register their location on the site) and something called hunting (where you can see what books have been set free in the area where you live.)
