"Twilight" vs. "Vampire Diaries"

I'm almost finished reading Twilight and I couldn't help comparing it to another vampire series called "The Vampire Diaries" by L.J. Smith.

There are a lot of similarities. "Diaries"
came before "Twilight" but I like the "Twilight" series better. The central female character is blonde and beautiful, while in "Twilight" the central female character is described as a beauty but a unique one and very intelligent, you won't get that from Elena in "Diaries." Elena is depicted as the typical popular girl in high school and of course the only guy who is not seemingly interested is the brooding outsider, Stefan....

Anyway, I don't want to give too much away, but I would definitely recommend reading both the "Vampire Diaries" and "Twilight" and then come to your own conclusion.

well i have read both series too, and honestly, i dont know which one is better. i love vampire love stories. i think vampires are unique beings and of course they exist. however, one thing about these books is that its almost always the same plot, theme, etc . there are always so many similarities. there is a pretty girl and is curious about the new comer in town, who seems mysterious and wears sunglasses all the time and doesn't eat the cafeteria food, etc. the girl finds out about the mysterious guy being a vampire, and since the girl doesn't care, they fall in love. trouble begins and evil interferes their relationship, usually a family member or one of the immortal's enemies. they fight the evil together, and the good guys win. bla bla bla.. they live happily ever after.. lol. you should also read the Vampire Kisses series by Ellen Schreiber.. thats good.. also Blue Bloods by Mellissa de la Cruz.. now THATS a good series.. i cant wait until the 3rd book, Revelations, come out.k. any vampire books you know about, write to me!!..haha

twilight is awesome !!!!!!....i havn`t read vapire diaries yet im planing to soon....wow..i hope its good b/c twilight i don`t think any1 could beet...

I think that vampire diaries is a great series. I fell in love with those books, I read them after twilight, however I know they were written in 1991.
I almost like them better then twilight, almost.
There are so many similarities I know but considering vampire diaries was written about ten years earlier than twilight..vampire diaries seems more original. Stephanie Meyers said it came to her in a dream but I'm not sure I believe that. I read alot of other books involving vampires and another series I encountered is the Marked (House of Night) series and if you read them you will see similarities in that series too, just little, simple things. I enjoyed all these books, mostly anything to do with a vampire romance. Anything you read with vampires, something is going to be similar to something else you have already read. That's just how it is.

I have read lots of vampire books, here they are:Twilight and saga, Blue Bloods and saga, Vampire Diaries, and Suck It Up. All great series, I even go to the same school as the daughter of the Blue Bloods auther and have the same name(Kathryn). I was told before reading Vam Diaries that Twilight was coping it, but I know that's not true. They may have simalarities but at stepheniemeyers.com she tells you how she came to the idea for Twilight(a dream, ha ha). All my friends call me Bella because I am clumsy, can't walk on a flat surphace with out tripping(even on grass,:{), bad at sports, hit in the head alot, and my middle name is Belle. I AM BELLA!! I LOOVE YOU EDWARD!!!

Another vampire series you guys might like is the Southern vampire series. Although it isn't about teenagers it does have a really great original plot line. HBO is doing a tv series on it called True Blood.

XDDD... there are so much simillarities in it. Although, in some sense, twilight has more humor in it while the vampire diaries on the other hand is more serious. BUT YES! They are in a LOT of ways SIMILLAR, and sometimes, it makes me think about the statement stephanie meyer had, that she has seen bella and edward in her dreams. Maybe, Lisa Jane Smith had the same dream, only with a little twitch... and had different names (Elena and Stefan)... However, twilight, Vampire diaries, Vampire Kisses and Vampire knight anre all hands down beautiful. There is no doubt about that. It's about vampires, I guess simillarities are inevitable

I first read Twilight before getting into Vampire Diaries and I noticed the similarities and thought "Was this ripped off?" And, to be honest, I like Vampire Diaries MUCH more than Twilight, why? Because it has better plot and there's no useless chattering. There's barely any plot in Twilight, there's nothing that is leading to the climax, whatever that was. At least with Vampire Diaries there was something that lead to the climax, the relationship between Elena and Stefan is more better than Edward and Bella. (Though after reading it again, I wanted Elena to be with Damon...) Elena is a strong character and she can hold out on her own, and Bella can't, to be honest, was there ever a time where she did hold out on her own when Eddykins did NOT save her? Elena can manage on her own, and she has for years and I don't see her trying to jump off a cliff to hear her ex's voice in her head. Stefan lets Elena be, he does not try to force Elena to stay with him only and not hang out with her friends, hell, he's even best friends with Elena's EX. This alone makes Stefan so much better than Edward Cullen, why? Edward takes out the engine in her truck, preventing her from seeing her friend who is less dangerous than Edward is. Stefan doesn't do that. He's not trying to put a leash on Elena.

TEAM DAMON! :D

I have yet to read the vampire diaries series so i can't compare the two.
I thought twilight was rather entertaining despite vampires that resembled the carebears more than actual cursed, man killing vampires.

having read the vampire chronicals from A. Rice I must say that that author had a better view of how vampires should think. ( ofcourse this remains my oponion ). Than again , Rice did go overboard in the books after " lestat" , with the plot getting weirder and weirder and - imho - less interesting to read. Still I would advise all to read the vampire chronicals if nothing else.

i think there both
great. i love vampires period
weather its books, movie or anything
else. of course they exist, i love these books
i dont care what anyone else think i know that there both great!!! :)

I have just finished with the vampire diaries. and I have to admit they were better than the twilight books for me. I agree with midnight. The plot was much more interesting.( a bit scary at times) I would certainly recommend reading them if you are a fan of twilight.

I prefer TWILIGHT but VD was great too.

TWILIGHT
EDWARD IS WAAYYY HHOTTER THEN STEFAN AND DAMON!!!!

I vote for vampire diaries. Even though Elena at beginning seems just a shallow high school brat, she ends up being stronger than Bella. I Agree with Midnight Rose when she says Elena can hold out on her on and yah I'd pick Stefan over Edward everyday of the week. I hope she picks Stefn. Damon annoys me. Than again I've only read the first vampire diaries book.

i think the vampire diaries is better. elana might be the popular girl but htat just adds to the story. in twilight bella has no charactor to her really she has nothing ot her except the whole eward thing

I saw then read twilight. Then, i read the vampire diaries. The love between the two books is infinite, and though there are similarities, there are also many differences.
It is dimwitted when people often say that the Vampire Diaries are a 'knock off' of Twilight, when in fact The Vampire Diaries was out before Twilight had been.
Both series are great, and that is what should be looked at, not that it is the classic tale of a human falling in love with a supernatural creature.

If a new series were to be written --with the same idea of love between a human and a vampire... the idea of forbidden love-- will any of you read it?

this question should not be taken in any offense, i am just curious. I want to have an understanding of whether ppl would just look at it and say, 'oh great another vampire love series', or say oh great! another vampire love series!.

twilight all the way vampire diaries are just copying it everyone is copying twilight lately. The vampire diaries suck and twilight is amazing :D

I read both series, and VD was way better than Twilight. Better plot, better characters, better couple, no sparkly vampires, etc.

By the way, I find it very annoying that people think that the vampire diaries are copying twilight. It's NOT. VD was published way before Twilight.

Well, i read the twilight series first; and i have to say; it disgusted me; it was okay; but terribly boring, and it was nothing compared to Vampire Diaries.

They have a lot of similarities; and people should know that the Vampire Diaries were published in the 90's so I'm very sure they aren't a knock off of Twilight. So, get your facts straight.

The Twilight series was one of the first books that I read; and somewhat liked. After that i decided to try more paranormal romance novels. Everyone was reading the Twilight Series so i believed it was a really good book; even though it fell flat on me.

I read Vampire Diaries and instantly fell in love with them. Much better than Twilight.

In the Twilight series Stephenie Meyer spends about a page describing how hot Edward looks =\ Then; its about how much Bella thinks shes ugly and how edward is so beautiful. Then; its those cheezy and ( Honestly ) boring make-out sessions where Bella faints =\

The plot for twilight series is non-existent. There is no climax; just broing old Bella talking about how ugly she is; and how beautiful Edward is. And very boring chatter. and sincerely Bella really pissed me off. Her character is so boring and so self-invovled that I flung my book across the room just hearing her explain how much she thinks edward is hot and how ugly and how she can't believe he chose her. OhHhHhH! AND THEN THERE JACOB. JESUS! She spends maybe 90% of her time with jacob just thinking of edward. HELLO! Stop hangign out with Jacob if your going to be drooling over Edward half the time in your head. And then she goes on and on...and on; talkign about how much she hates herself for hurting Jacob; and in the next paragraph we find her humping Edward and explaing how beautiful he is....UGHHHHH! SHUT THE HELL UP BELLA.

BULLSHiT.

Now; Vampire Diaries is where to start. Elena is a typical popular teenager. She is a little self--absorded but her charater grows so much in each book. She finds herself falling in love with Stefan; a Vampire and still loves him; even after his revelation of being [ Inhuman ]
The book keeps u capative and i must say- THE PLOT iS AMAZiNG. The book is always giving new twist. U keep wanting; and wanting more. Elena grows as a charater and is strong. She values herself and doesn't waste her time jumping off cliffs and trying to kill herself. Her and stefan have their hard times but in the end; love conquers all.

She's smart; wiser and strong than bella is soo many ways.

Stefan gives Elena her space; and their in love but they have their privacy and alone time. He doesn't hover; and sure as hell doesn't destroy her car just so she won't see her ex. Stefan is calm and very sweet. Edward is wayyyy over protective; doesn't give Bella space and sincerly; have the time he has to unhook bella from his leg. Elena is dependent. and Bella is co-dependent. If edward died; you'd find her at teh bottom of an ocean; Stefen died; you'd find Elena mouring but staying strong and alive; waiting until teh day comes that she sees her love again.

BELLA iS FRiCKEN ANNOYiNG.
Elena is interesting to listen too.

TEAM STEFAN!

In conclusion; BURN THOSE TWiLIGHT BOOKS; OR SHOVE THEM UP YOUR SiBLiNGS PANTS; AND GO FiND THE VAMPiRE DiARiES.

i loved them both. they are pretty similar in the whole vampire hot mysterious guy thing. but in twilight the girl (bella) is a lot more realistic then the girl in v.d. the girl in vampire dairies is like the prettiest girl you could possibly imagine so its hard to compare yourself to her. but other then that they are the same. i kinda like the twilight saga a little but but they were both extreme obsessions of mine.

okay.. ive read both series as well and i disagree with everything "midnight vampire' said
twilight to me was soooo much better.. and to alot of my friends the same.
the vampire diaries was a good book
but twilight just was better and more interesting...
both of the books r fantasies but the fact that twilight is 10000 moree realistic than vampire diaries makes it better...
vampire diaries has barely any thing to surprise me and that makes it boring. unlike twilight had a lot of new surprises and things u wouldnt expect to happen happened.
of course i also loved the fact that twilight
had not only vampires but it was half about vampires and half about werewolves
that really got me into it .. too see the conflicts bewteen the two over a girl.
a normal girl.. bella is more of a girl
people can relate to unlike elena.. shes more out there. and hard to relate.
and edward just is so much more loving then stefan. and edward and how jacob is a werewolf fighting for bella caught my attention because it was unique to put.. a vampire and a werewolf
( known as ennimies) to fight over the same girl (a human) and in the last book where bella has a baby and marries edward is a very happily ever after that i always enjoy.
but as for vampire diaries. it was a good book and all but the fact that it was MOSTLY all vampires. bored me. i love vampires but i like more than just that. and the ending to the last book did nothing for me .

soo this is my oppinion on the books. if u put one verses the other.. then TWILIGHT definitely would win .

Have you really read ALL of The Vampire Diaries, Sassy???

While, yes, Elena is the popular girl in school, the trend setter etc...She too is also very realistic. There ARE those popular girls in school, the ones you wish you could be like or simply hate...but she does exist.

There is also Werewolves in The Vampire Diaries, plus other paranormal/psychic/spiritual entities.

Since when have Vampire's sparkled in sunlight, and prior to SM writing about them, where in any folklore about vampires does it say "Vampires Sparkle in the Sunlight." - That is NOT realistic.

Elena IS a normal girl torn between two brothers who happen to be vampires, Stefan's love for Elena was a pure love, not just because he lusted after her scent. If you read Dark Reunion, he portrays his love as best as anyone (vampire or not) can. Edward treats Bella as if she knows nothing, yet Stefan understood that Elena was strong willed and confident.

Bella is a clichéd, over flawed girl who has way too much teen angst. Elena had a balance of all emotions. She had her flaws too, but with Bella, you had no choice but to read on, and on about her 'flaws'. At least with Elena, you found them out in a timely and realistic manner.

I've been a fan of The Vampire Diaries since they were published in 1991. In 20yrs, lets see how many Twilight fans will be around.

Okay, Sassy, I understand your point of view, about how its Non-realistic.

So, popular girls are unrealistic??

And anyways, did you read the Twilight properly? Because, in case you didn;t... Bella is quiet popular in the book. Not only did about 3 guys ask her out to the prom; but she had a bunch of friends. SO, technically, your dealing with Bella- a popular girl.

How can you relate to Bella? Bella just speaks about hwo ugly she is, yet you find numerous character asking her out... hmm... do hideous people get asked out a lot???

No.

Secondly; sparkles? LOL. Wth was Stephenie Meyer thinking?

Anyways; Vamps and werewolfs? HAVE YOU READ VD? Bcuz IF you did; then yoru aware Werewolfs are part of the story...

WELL; Its not Vamp. VS werewolf; Its brother Vs Brother.

Its much more intriguing than a dog; and an over protective vamp; who can't let his "gf" tlk to people without him hovering.

SECONDLY; Wth is up with Breaking Dawn? That must be the poorest excuse of a Final Installment of a series. I mean c'mon, WAS BREAKING DAWN REALISTIC? CUZ I FOUDN IT WAYYY FAR FETCHED. I think Stephenie has been inhaling to many marker fumes.

and tell me;

What is so interestign about Bella Swan? All she does is sullk in new moon; become a horny teen in eclipse... and has sex all the time in breaking dawn... has a daughter at 19....and beat lil Ole evil Aros.

OH GOSHH!!!

ughh. Boring. Please tell me intersting parts of Twilight, that won't make coffee go to sleep BEFORE, you calll Twilight Interesting...

Thanks for your opinion Sass

OH BTW SASSY; THE VD SERiES iSN'T OVER JUST YET;
DARK REUNION IS THE LAST BOOK;
THE NEXT BOK IS ALREADY OUT, THE RETURN: NIGHTFALL.
ONCE AGAIN, GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT.

OHH... AND THERE ARE MORE TO COME. I THNK HER NXT IS SHADOW SOULS.

looks likee i will b doin alot of readin ! Twiliqht Saqaa +& Thee Vampiree Diaries !

but i reallyy loved dhaa Twiliqht moviee ! +& i likee Miaa frum Deqrassi so wee will c !

+& to b honest, even thouqh Thee Vampiree Diaries kamee out in dhaa 90's, they weree just books, its kindaa odd dhat now all of a sudden aftaa so lonq dey wannaa makee a TV show aftaa Twiliqht madee a moviee... hmmm

i've never read the vampire diaries before but I think I would like twilight better.... idk why its just I love twilight a lot and the vampire diaries.... idk

i've read both of the books...i've first seen twilight thought and then read it...i looove edward he is my prince!!!!! the only thing that annoys me a little bit is that he is so overprotective...i don't like bella thought she has no personality and the fact that likes jacob and kisses him makes me wanna punch her...twilight the book was ok i guess...i liked edward and his quotes were amazing he is so romantic! i also liked alice-so funny and carsisle! new moon sucked cause edward was not part of it and the cullens too...the fact that stephany meyer started to talk about jacob and bella annoyed me...it supposed to be a vampire-human love not werewolf-vampire-human...it is kind of silly...werewolf-vampire-human thing...eclipse was ok...but breaking dawn sucks!! stephany completely dissapointed me...she changed completely bella's personality making her from a shy,clumsy,self-centred simple girl to a powerful vampire who is more self-centred than before and also a horny teen...and jacob-reneesme thing tottaly annoyed me! that was so stupid!
for the TVD i have to say that i've read only the first book and wanna start the second one...so i will speak about the first one only...vampire diaries is more serious, dramatic and darker than twilight...there are scenes that are filled with darkness that drows you in...i also like the fact that we don't see the whole story only by the point of view of elena but of stefan's too...
as for the caracters...elena kind of annoys me cause she always seems to know everything and senses everything that's gonna happen..but at the same time she is cool,indipendent,strong...stefan is ok...he is so alone that makes me wanna hug him...but doesn't always manage to amaze me like edward does...Damon rocks! he is so hot! his darkness drows me in...there's such passion and darkness to him!!
bonnie, meredith and matt are really cool!
the only fact that i don't like is that elena thinks that she loves stefan and that he loves her too, that he wants to protect her and share his life with her[i am using actual words elena used in the awakening]from the first kiss...this is not normal...yeah i know damon amazed me from the first moment he talked to elena and tried to kiss her but only because i felt passion and longing for him...how can elena believe that stephan and her are meant to be together and that she can't live without him so quickly???in twilight bella and ed meet each other and talk about their lifes but here is not talking...no meeting each other just falling in love
in conclusion i think both books are cool to read...as for the caracters elena is better than bella, edward is better than stefan cause he is more romantic and he is like the prince from a fairytale...but stefan is way more realistic and he leaves elena to have her life...if i had to choose one of them as a boyfriend i would go for stefan for being romantic and amazing but still realistic but as a literature caracter edward is better
damon is waaaaaaay more amazing than jacob! he is sooooo hoooot and so bad boy!if edward and damon made war for my heart i would really don't know who to choose...hahaha
so guys don't argue and please stop saying that vampire diaries copied twiligh is was released in 1991 and please give it a chance and read it...i gave it that chance and really liked it..but my best friend stills thinks that twilight is better and refuses to read it...so bad for her! she has no clue what's damon and why i can't stop talking about him
HE IS FREAKING HOT!!!!!!!!!!

I won't lie to you here... I read Twilight before TVD and I loved it... I mean what grade 8 girl wouldn't? But after that, I read TVD and also loved it. Soon though I started to get tired of Twilight, just like everyone else I know...

Personally I think that Twilight is just a fad. It's like the Jonas Brothers (though I've always hated them). Pretty soon everyone will have moved on.

But TVD has been read and loved for over 15 years, and I don't see people getting tired of this series anytime soon.

Trust me here, folks! If you really think about what you're reading, you'll realize just as I did that TVD were absolutely way way better written, and way way more interesting. L.J. Smith seems to actually care about her characters whereas Stephenie Meyer seems to have started out caring about all of them in the first few books but Breaking Dawn was just a total disappointment and waste of my valuable time and money because it seems like SM just put the book together in a couple of months. Writing takes a lot of time and effort, and it just didn't seem like she put in as much as L.J. Smith.

And just to tell you all, The Vampire Diaries were published WAY before Twilight, so just stop arguing and read the publication details if you don't believe me!

Honestly, I read The Vampire Diaries back in high school, and Twilight seems to be a complete rip off of these books.

There is a very pointed difference between the two sagas and that is that L. J. Smith builds something in her books that Smeyer just can't - PLOT.

I agree with Trish here. The plot surrounding Elena in TVD, how she looks identical to Stefan's former love and how he and his brother are almost fighting over her, is actually not bad at all (and I'm a huge not-fan of these human-girl-meets-vampire-boy sagas that seem to be popping up everywhere nowadays). Stefan seems to have a personality that makes Edward's "oh god, don't look at me, I'm so dangerous" attitude look lame and boring.

Elena has flaws and is a realistic character - Bella is the perfect example of a "mary sue" which, as any of you clued in to the writing world will know, is a self-insert into a story where a character is the centre of every plot, everyone loves/hates them (or wants to eat them in this case), is completely helpless and clueless and clumsy and stupid, and has to be rescued by the hero at every single damn chapter. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Isabella Swann.

Smeyer's writing style is also a lot harder to choke down than L. J. Smith's, considering you have to deal with Edward's "swirling, mysterious pools of liquid gold, so warm and alluring" every time he does something with his eyes. L. J. Smith's style, as far as I remember, was descriptive but nowhere near as fluffy or revolting as Smeyer's.

I think, in all honesty, that the main difference between the two is that L. J. Smith has a firm grasp on what PLOT is, and Smeyer just doesn't. She's written an entire saga on uinrealistic, ridiculous foreplay between these two unbelievable, bland characters that never evolve and never learn from their mistakes and never grow up. It's actually painful to read. L. J. Smith has a plot built, she has reasons why people are acting the way they do, and yet people are ready to slam this book just because "Elena is popular and Bella isn't", or because "Stefan isn't as hot as Edward". Honestly, I suppose if we're dealing with seven and eighth graders, things like that are what make a good book, whereas the rest of us are more drawn to book with plots, character development, imagination and realism. (Let's look at the people on these sites defending Twilight - they tlk lik this omg edward is my heeerrrooo hes so sexxxxxxxxaaaiiiiii xxxxxxxxx - and have no concept of caps lock, punctuation or anything other than Edward's looks and wanting to be Bella. I guess the more frightening thing is that there are also adults who are smitten by these poor excuses for books.

Smeyer rushed her way through writing the books (and threw a temper tantrum when someone leaked one on the internet). She obviously wrote them about herself (Bella looks a LOT like Smeyer, anyone else notice this?) and some fantasy with a vampire where she's the centre of everyone's world, plus she has no grasp of character development or plot. The only reason these books are being published is because the publishers saw that adolescent girls would lap them up and they would make a lot of money off them, not because they are good quality or because she's a decent writer. Now, they're making TVD into a TV show to try and drag in some of that revenue from the lame teenage girl vampire fetish that seems to be sweeping the world in some kind of pathetic fad, which is sad because they weren't bad books.

I'm sure you've gathered by now that I'm not a huge fan of Twilight, and I'm sure I'm about to have a tonne of adolescent girls attack me for slating their darling Edward, but this is the POV of an actual writer dissecting the book as a critic. So bite me.

So bite me.

If you want a REALLY good vampire book, try reading a hard-to-locate copy of The Delicate Dependency by Michael Talbot. Way more substance than Twilight, The Vampire Diaries or even Ann Rice.

One reason I think that Twilight and The Vampire Diaries have similarities is that they are basically romance novels with vampirism thrown in. Boy meets girls, boy leaves girl, girl desperate for boy, etc. Fun, but fluff. Don't get me wrong, I DO enjoy them for what they are.

have read both books....... but the 1 i like best is..........TWILIGHT!!!!!!!!, cus twilight is so addicting, 1's u start reading it u cant stop.. dnt get me wrong vampire diaries was awesome 2.... but the way dey talk in twilight just make u blush cus its just so charming...and plus the reason y i like twilight betta is dat,in twilight Bella dnt think she is gud enough 4 Edward which i think every girl culd relate 2 in some kind of circumstances...... but in vampire diaries Eleena is just this pretty girl next door dat happens 2 fall in luv with a vampire... both stories where fantastic is just unfortunate dat i like one betta than the other.

The funny thing is that Since the Twilght movie hysteria....all these books are going to television..

I've almost finished the first VD book (have read the whole twilight series and love it) and i have to say that although both books are considered to be young adult/teen books, Twilight seems to have much more substance than VD. Reading VD makes me feel like I'm reading a Sweet Valley High book just with vampires added for characters.

ummm..... this is a hard one i read both of them and there so good.. i read twilight before the vampire diaries and at first it thought that the vampire diaries copied twilight al though i still loved it wasnt till the second book the i found out it came out 1991 before i was even born...but personally i was more into twilight all though i still love the vampire diaries... and i thinnk that the the author of the vampire diaries copied twilight cause on the last book which came out this feb. stefan leaves just like edward..still i think the newest book of vampire diaries wasnt as good as the first two... but im loving both twilight and the vampire diaries..

look losers. The Vampire Diaries is way better than this ugly Edward book so called "TOILLETTE"

I like The Vampire Diaries WAY more. I mean, I liked the first Twilight book, but, after that one, they were boring. Plus, Twilight seems like a Vampire Diaries knock off. I hate that!

helllllllllo! Twilight is so much better!
the vampire diaries is a crappy knock off of the amazing Twilight!

it's just a crime to compare shitty work to amazing art like twilight ...

Edward Cullen is the hottest vampire ever existed!

I have seen and read both Vampire Diaries and Twilight and for me VAMOIRE DAIRIES IS SO MUCH BETTER.

DAMON SALVATOR IS THE HOTTEST VAMP... A LIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MY OPINON WILL NOT CHANGE!!!!!!!!!!

I enjoyed reading both, but something about vampire diaries has drawn me to it more than twilight. Maybe its the fact that the twilight movie was horrible. I feel as if it did the books no justice and honestly ruined it for me whereas the new show Vampire Diaries is fantastic. I absolutely love watching it and cannot wait for new episodes to air.

Oh and lastly, to sara who said that vampire diaries is a "crappy knock off of twilight" you are completely mistake. If anything it would be the other way around because Vampire Diaries was written over nearly 15 years ago.

I havent read Vampire Diaries...but I did read Twilight and I have to say it may be my favorite book and series. What can i say? vampires AND sappy love story?! (:
I have watched Vampire Diaries on CW though..and I think its pretty great. There are somethings that I think go against the idea of a vampire...but i am a little prejudice over twilight. I just cant help myself. But what does bother me is that someone would compare Edward and Stefan. Whats there to compare?! They are both amazingly great and outstandingly beautiful, but as someone else has said on here, Elena should be with Damon...I mean how awesome would that be? The stories in my opinion are nothing alike. Yes there are similarities in vampires...but you guys vampires are one thing...they all are going to be the same.
ANYWAY I think everyone should read them all!!
