A classic with a twist

A review from reader Nancy Duncan:

One of my favorite books is "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen. When I heard about the new edition of the book, where zombies had been added to this tale of manners, I was a little leery about how the classic would fare.

I need not have worried.

"Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" by Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith, is a fun, interesting mix of classic literature and zombie fiction. The two genres fit easily in to each other.

Here's an example.

England has been hit by a plague, where there are gangs of roaming zombies. The Bennet sisters had been to China to be trained in the art of fighting and beheading the zombies. They are instructed by the King to protect their neighborhood of the undead.

At a dinner party, when the lack of servers become evident to the guests, Miss Bennet and Mr. Darcy go to the kitchen to see what the problem is. They come upon a scene of zombie destruction and immediately go into their fighting stance. It might not sound as if this would work, but for some reason it does.

As the book jacket says, this is a classic that you might actually read. I agree.
