"Julie & Julia" the movie is delicious

Last week I persuaded my husband to go with me to see "Julie & Julia." The movie is based on two books -- "Julie & Julia" by Julie Powell and "My Life in France" by Julia Child.

The action moves back and forth between Child's life in France as she discovers a passion for cooking and begins to compile her famous cookbook, and Julia Powell cooking the more than 500 recipes in Child's "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" in her tiny Queens kitchen and blogging about it.

Meryl Streep blew me away as Julia Child. Close your eyes and you'd swear Child was on the screen. And Amy Adams is very good as Powell, trying to balance her work life and love life, all the while deboning ducks and unmolding aspics.

There are very funny moments in this movie, and some touching ones as well. I left the theater feeling great admiration for both women.

And, most surprising to me, my husband loved the movie, too. His only complaint was that he would have liked to see more of the French countryside. He loved the soundtrack and, of course, all that food. And we've agreed we must cook at least one of Child's dishes -- the boeuf bourguignon.
