If you plan to watch the Kentucky Derby today, here’s a little history for you from the 2009 race. Despite odds against him at 50:1, underdog horse Mine That Bird won the 135th Kentucky Derby — the second largest upset in Derby history.
Now, coinciding with this year’s Kentucky Derby, the horse’s owner Mark Allen has released a graphic novel trilogy telling the Bird’s story.
“At the Gate,” “In the Stretch” and “The Finish Line,” were written by Rod McCall and Price Hall, and self-published by Mine That Bird The Movie, LLC, according to a press release. An animated film based on the books is also being considered.
The books are available at www.minethatbird.com.
