York County bookstores offer Black Friday deals, sales

You couldn’t push me out of bed at 4 a.m. for Black Friday sales even with a cattle prod. But later on in the morning — perhaps, 8 or 9 a.m. — a cup of coffee and some time spent at a bookstore sounds heavenly.

If you’re looking to shop locally this holiday season, here are a few Black Friday promotions at independent bookstores and comic book stores in York County:

  • Bookland — Offering a 10 percent discount on book purchases. Open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, 2114 S. Queen St., York Township, 717-854-2665, bookland.comcastbiz.net.
  • Comix Connection — From 6 a.m. to noon Friday, buy two items, get one free. Includes everything in store except new comics, unbagged comics and gift cards. For Small Business Saturday, 20 percent off everything in stock, excluding gift cards. Open 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at West Manchester Mall; open 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at 6200 Carlisle Pike, Mechanicsburg. 717-767-4871 (York), 717-591-2727 (Mechanicsburg), blog.comixconnection.com.
  • Irvin’s Books — Buy any new or used book and get one used book (of equal or lesser value) for free. Open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, 2159 White St., West York, 717-843-2947, irvinsbooks.com.
  • Planet X Comics and Collectibles — Almost everything is 20 percent off, said store manager Alex Levitsky, including comic books (single issues and other volumes), games, memorabilia, collectibles and gear. Comics in the 50-percent-off bins will be $1. “Magic: The Gathering” cards and other items pertaining to this game are not included in the sale.   • RAC Books – Offering a 15 percent discount on purchases at its shop in the Burning Bridge Antiques Market. Open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, 304 Walnut St., Columbia, 717-684-7900, www.racbooks.net.
  • Readers Café – Shoppers can get motivated with a 12-ounce coffee for just 10 cents. Open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, 125 Broadway, Hanover, 717-630-2524, thereaderscafe.net.
  • Recycled Reader Used Bookstore – Bring a friend when you shop Tuesday, Friday or Saturday, and each customer will receive $5 additional store credit. Regular store credit redemption policies apply. 1212 E. Market St., 717-848-4676, on Facebook.
  • The York Emporium – Enter The York Emporium’s “no stress zone” — free coffee and hot chocolate, goodies to chew on, free WiFi and free downtown parking. Plus, 20 percent off everything (including gift certificates) Friday, Saturday and Sunday. 343 W. Market St., York, 717-846-2866, theyorkemporium.com.

The Book House in Dillsburg, New Visions Books and Gifts in Springettsbury Township and Hearts & Minds in Dallastown will also be open for regular hours on Black Friday. Book Ends in Springettsbury Township will be closed. Find locations, hours and contact information here.
