Book roots into family tree
Visiting relatives and family dinners can lead to a season of stress. Soothe the tension by reading how parents’ love has overcome almost any obstacle in Andrew Solomon’s new book “Far from the Tree: Parents, Children, and the Search for Identity.” He interviewed parents around the globe about all types of children — prodigies, mentally and physically disabled and criminally inclined. Solomon weaves in his own story: How he grew up with severe dyslexia, came out to his parents as a teen and longed to become a parent himself. His unconventional family was featured on NBC’s “Rock Center” earlier this month.
