Julie Swope’s memoir, “Of Roots and Wings,” looks thick, but I sped through the pages of her powerful story. She relates her early years in an orphanage, adoption into a wealthy family and a lifetime of physical, emotional, verbal and sexual abuse. Through it all, she emerges as a fighter.
Now a psychologist with offices in downtown York, Swope wrote the book to show readers how to “hope for what you want but cope with what you have.”
You can look for a full story on Swope in an upcoming edition of the York Sunday News, but in the meantime, catch a book signing for “Of Roots and Wings” at noon Saturday, Dec. 8, at Irvin’s Books, 2159 White St., West Manchester Township. For details, call 717-843-2947.
