Julie Swope to sign copies of ‘Of Roots and Wings’ at Irvin’s Books

"Of Roots and Wings" by Julie SwopeJulie Swope’s memoir, “Of Roots and Wings,” looks thick, but I sped through the pages of her powerful story. She relates her early years in an orphanage, adoption into a wealthy family and a lifetime of physical, emotional, verbal and sexual abuse. Through it all, she emerges as a fighter.

Now a psychologist with offices in downtown York, Swope wrote the book to show readers how to “hope for what you want but cope with what you have.”

You can look for a full story on Swope in an upcoming edition of the York Sunday News, but in the meantime, catch a book signing for “Of Roots and Wings” at noon Saturday, Dec. 8, at Irvin’s Books, 2159 White St., West Manchester Township. For details, call 717-843-2947.

I would like to inquire, if you are aware,of any upcoming book signings for “Of Roots and Wings.” Or perhaps if I could send a copy of the book to the author to be signed?
My best friend of 40 plus years was also in St. Francis’ with her siblings. She has an up coming birthday and I would love to get a signed copy of this book for her.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Barb Dehner

      Hi Barb,
I’m not aware of any upcoming signings, but I will pass along your information and request to Julie. If you’d like to email her directly, the email address on her website is julie@julieswope.com. I’m sure she’d be willing to help!

Hi Barb — Julie said she would be in touch, but here’s what I heard back from her: “March 1, First Friday I’ll be at Cherie Anne’s Design for a ‘Musiquill,’ my word for playing harp and having a book signing. And Saturday, March 16, there will be another at The Paul Smith Library in Shrewsbury from 10a.m. til noon.”
